Hi, All,

I’m Taylor D. Waring, and I’ll be the managing editor for Willow Springs Books during the 2018-2019 production cycle. I’m a poet / musician from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. During my undergrad, I majored in English Lit. and minored in Philosophy. I spent the next few years after my undergrad selling records and playing in my band, Baba Yaga. The whole while, I was working on writing poems in what little spare time I had, and so I decided to pursue and MFA.

After a few application cycles, I was stoked to receive acceptance into Eastern Washington University’s MFA program. When I came in, I had developed a passion for book design interning for Willow Springs Books, which is how I ended up as the Managing Editor for this wonderful press.

Over the last 9 months, I’ve learned a lot from our prior managing editor, Cassandra Bruner, and our assistant director, Lauren Hohle. My first quarter, I worked with Cass on production of Canese Jarboe’s wonderful and startling chapbook, dark acre, which I was fortunate enough to design the cover for. I also assisted Lauren by reading submissions for the Spokane Prize for Short Fiction, which was awarded to Dariel Suarez for his collection, A Kind of Solitude. During this time, we were also awarded a grant from Spokane Arts Grant Awards (SAGA), which will fund the production of our upcoming release, Hair of the Dog, part of our Zodiac Poetry Series.

I’m stoked on our 2018-2019 production cycle. Over the next year, we’ll be publishing two poetry chapbooks. First up will be Tooth and Shoe, a collection of surreal prose poems from Heikki Huotari, which reminds me a bit of our dear Rimbaud’s Illuminations. I’ve got the interior and exterior all finalized, and we’ll have the book ready for a September release. Lauren has been working tirelessly on Dariel Suarez’s A Kind of Solitude, and dealing with the magical world of bureaucracy.

We’ve also got something BIG to announce for our 10th volume of our Surrealist Poetry series, but we can’t say too much about it quite yet.

Thanks for reading! We’ll be updating monthly!
